Birthday cake

Like son, like father, or wait, it should be the other way around right? One of Caleb's co-workers gave Caleb the idea to sit on the table to blow out his birthday candles. Of course he wasn't going to let that bright idea pass him by!
Here was my poor attempt at decorating the birthday cake. I had forgotten to pick up some cake decorating icing, so I just had to come up with something myself. Just a note to all you aspiring cake decorators out there, knives don't work very well when trying to put the wording on the cake. If you are wondering what it says: Happy 30-4 yrs, 0+1 day Birthday. If you are wondering why the math equation, Caleb always puts a really difficult one on my cake. So I just came up with one on my own. I know, I should stick with nursing.

Caleb's Birthday Disaster

Caleb's birthday was Saturday. We enjoyed a nice breakfast with some of his basketball buddies after a their weekly Saturday game. In the afternoon, Caleb, Tayce, and I went swimming in our neighborhood pool. We splashed around until our fingers and toes turned to raisens, then came home. Caleb wanted to get his hair cut after Tayce's nap, and that got me thinking that I don't even remember the last time I got my hair cut. My split ends were terrible and I usually acquired a big rat's nest in the back of my hair by the end of the day. I was trying to hold out until September when Danielle could take care of my hair again, but I figured a trim needed to happen soon. So that's when I thought of the idea of going to get my hair trimmed while Tayce was sleeping and Caleb could be home, and then Caleb would do the same when I got back. If only I could have seen the future. . .

I went to Great Clips because I knew that their hair cuts are cheap and I knew where it was. Besides, I just needed a trim. That's not complicated. When I walked in, I was happy to discover that I would not have to wait to get my hair cut. I was brought straight back, and I explained to the lady that I wanted my hair trimmed an inch, and to taper my hair from my chin. The lady set out trimming my hair and doing what I assumed as trimming my layers. She worked at it for about 45 minutes and then sent me on my merry way. My hair was still wet when I left, so I was not able to get a really good look at it, though I did notice that she had tapered my hair higher than I had asked her to. When I got home, my hair was mostly dry, thanks to the Houston heat, and I walked up the stairs to trade off with Caleb.

I still remember the look of shock on Caleb's face and his shocked question, "What happened?" I told him that it probably didn't look good because it was still wet and needed to be fixed, so I proceeded to the bathroom and started fixing my hair. It was then that I discovered that the nice lady back at Great Clips, had no idea of what she was doing. I had one layer in the front of my head that goes about to my mouth line, and then another long layer, which was the rest of my hair, in the back. I had a mullet. No matter what I did with it, I couldn't make it look any better. Caleb came into the bathroom and agreed with it being a mullet. He then told me that he would skip getting his hair cut, if I would go get my hair fixed, quickly. He even said that I could cut it short. Now I knew that when Caleb gave me permission to cut my hair short, my hair was in bad shape.

I found salon on the internet that was close by and was able to get in quickly. I explained the situation to the lady when I came in, and she took one look at my hair and gasped, "You poor thing!" She then proceded to fix my hair by layering it so it would look even. I will admit that I was scared to death of the outcome, but I figured that I couldn't have looked any worse. While she was cutting my hair she asked if I would like my eyebrows waxed. If she only had known that I had plucked them that morning. At that point, I truly felt like someone had beat me with any ugly stick.

I got home and fixed my hair once again. The outcome was a lot better than the first. I still am not a big fan of my hair cut. I lost about three inches in length and now there are too many layers, but it is 100% better than it was before. I'm just patiently waiting until I can see Danielle so she can truly fix my hair. At least Caleb is no longer embarrassed to go out in public with me.

Due to the hair disaster, Caleb was unable to get his hair cut, and I didn't get his cake made like I had planned. We had cake on Sunday instead. I guess you can say that I tried to make his birthday a memorable one! At least I don't have to worry about anymore rat's nests.

It's a little hard to tell in the picture, but here is my mullet!

Tayce's First Birthday

This is Tayce's excited expression, so i just had to show it again. He was lucky enough to have both sets of grandparents here for his birthday, so he was a little spoiled with gifts. He got a play remote control, a glowworm, a ball, a foam hammer, a drum, a basketball hoop for the bathtub, and his bike that you see him riding in. He loves his new toys!

Here is a picture of Tayce eating his birthday cake. He didn't dig into it like I thought he would. He needed a little assistance from his dad to get going. He only really liked the frosting, but it was sure fun to watch him. Thanks to Grandma Harmon for the cute birthday cake!

We spent the morning at the beach in Galeveston. Tayce loves playing in the water, but I think he loved eating the sand more! We all enjoyed playing around in the warm water. We later enjoyed lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. It was a wonderful day!

Here is a sneak preview of the fun we've had this summer so far! You'll just have to wait for Nicole to post more pictures of Tayce's birthday and some of the trips we've gone on.

Random pictures...

So, we made Peanut Butter No-Bake cookies a while ago, and we (when I say we, I mean Caleb) decided to get creative in the cookie blobs. It was a lot of fun eating Nicole!

Here's an old picture of Tayce. He now has more teeth on the bottom, but I couldn't resist posting this picture as well. When he wants to be, he can be a real happy baby!

Here's Caleb being very bored of mowing the lawn normally. Nicole made him cut all the grass though.
